    I fully seated the carrier barring and put the “shims” in that holds the carrier barring in place and it still won’t shift at all

    I am working with a manual and the screw still screws in and out fine. I’m just trying to figure out why it won’t shift even through it is locked in the cradle. Would it be because I don’t have the barring carrier fully seated down?

    I was able to get the screw in that holds the fork. If it wasn’t engaged would it still allow me to get the screw through?

    I have a 1989 Johnson 40 hp outboard. And I am in the process of putting my internals from my old lower unit, into a new lower unit housing and I have put everything back together except for the Carrier barrings. And I went to move the shift rod down to make sure it goes into forward and reverse...
