    Starter Help 50 hp mercury 1983 50 hp

    Hope someone can help me. I have a 1983 Mercury 50 hp outboard. When I try to start it the starter engages,and cranks the engine, but just as it fires the starter disengages. Is it the starter that needs to be replaced or some part of it. I 'm used to oars, not to engines. Any help would great.
