Hello, if after 1984 evinrude used a seal and not an O ring did they keep using the same drive shaft as mine in the attachment?
What I am wondering is, should I, it being an 1985 expect it to seal when assembled?

I cannot see the serial # on the power head ?
Some observations though : the rubber seal/grommet on the high side of the pump housing was stopping the fitting together of the gearbox and mid bodies. Looking at the original one it had been cut down by 3 or 4 mls.

I seek your advice.
I have fitted a water pump kit and started to assemble the gear case to the body, it felt a little jammed just as the gear shift shaft reached the connecting clamp so I pulled it out just to check that all was ok.
The O ring at the motor end of the drive shaft just below...
