I've got the correct parts coming actually tomorrow from Amazon so I can start from scratch to get this right. When you say pressure test I'm guessing you're talking a compressed air test with the gear lube drain plug tight and a schrader valve fitting in the gear lube vent hole?
This is the base the dealer sold me and I did notice some differences from the one I pulled off, like a dumbass I used it anyway. This is why I'm assuming that it's my problem. I did buy the actual Quicksilver 46-4492A3 base from Amazon yesterday. I used a cheap water pump/impeller kit from...
Funny you mention that because the one I pulled out didn't look exactly like the one the boat dealer sold me. I just now bought the Quicksilver 46-44292A3 from Amazon that's identical to the one I pulled off. Thanks for the heads up on that!
Damn I was really hoping I wouldn't have to drop that lower half again, I went through hell getting it back on in the first place. I guess I've got no choice.
Ok, here's where I'm at, I loosened all the nuts and hex bolt then dropped the lower half down about 3/8" and the seal is in there in the recess completely like it should be. The water pump/impeller set I bought is aftermarket so I thought maybe the seal is obviously too thin. I saved all the...
Before I tightened the lower case all the way up I double checked to make sure that seal was still in place and it was. When I get a chance I'll pull it back down enough to check it again.
So I'm filling it with gear lube and when I've got almost a quart in it starts coming out of I'm assuming a vent hole on the other side of the lower section. What's up with that, what's wrong?
Thanks for the input @AllDodge @Bt Doctur and @kghost I got it back together. That drive shaft did not want to mesh with the upper part but it finally did. I checked the shifter to make sure it's working correctly too. Again thanks for the help!
Yes the shifter is all the way forward and the prop is locked when I try to turn it counterclockwise. I'll re-check that water tube in the morning, thanks!
I've got a 1987 Rinker with the 5.0 200 hp chevy V8 and the Mercruiser Alpha One Gen 1 sterndrive. I changed the water pump, impeller, etc and tried to put the stern drive's lower half back on but something's stopping it from going all the way up. It seems like the drive shaft's splines aren't...
