    68 Evinrude 9.9 shift linkage question

    1968 Evinrude 9.9 long shaft.Removed lower end to replace water pump,had great trouble connecting shift linkage because of the awesome room available (NOT).Anyway,I managed to unscrew the shift rod from the shift lever yoke assembly and can not get it back in.Gears are not in nuetral by the way...
