Shift cable adjustment driving me crazy

Never been at the southern end, we mostly stayed around Sandpoint. I am familiar with big lakes though. We lived in the shore of Great Slave Lk, Canada’s NWT. 2000’ deep in the East Arm, the deepest lake in North America. 27,000 sq km, (10,500 sq mi). I once nosed my boat onto shore in the...

Shift cable adjustment driving me crazy

Lake Pend Oreille. My dad was a fanatical fisherman. As kids we used to spend quite a bit of time coming down from southern Alberta into Montana and the Idaho panhandle. I remember the lake as being deep, dark, and cold. The old timers used to tell us it had no bottom. I understand it was used...

Appropriate gear lube to use in lower unit of a 5hp 1968 Evinrude 58092M

If it’s a 1968, the model should be 5802M. That is a very simple motor. It cares not a bit about a specific oil. Go to your local parts store & buy a litre of off the shelf marine gear oil 75-90 or 80-90 pump it in, & go fishing.

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

That knob is for setting a specific desired idle speed. It is not to adjust your basic idle. think you would best be helped by purchasing an OEM service manual and going through the Link & sync procedure. There is a specific order of steps to take in order to get a decent idle.

Here is a service manual for your motor. It’s a large document scroll down to page F., there you will find your motor, cross-referenced to a Gale.(5S12), it shows your motor as being 1956. Chapter 6 is cooling pg 6-10 is your motor. Eventually scrolling through it you may find quite a lot of...

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

pulling up the ‘97 page,it also shows the same 4 plugs as above, if you use the Crankcase/Cylinder page. Maybe Champion changed their recommendations, I see the plug page you used only goes up to 1993. There isn’t much difference between the two plugs, QL is the same CDI resistor & thread size...

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

“The MarineEngine.com Champion Spark Plug Page does not show QL77JC4 for any year of 20HP.” Interesting. I see where that came from. His motor is ‘96. I selected E20CREDA 20 hp (1996), & got this page, which shows QL82C if you select Spark Plug, under COMMON REPLACEMENT PARTS. If you select...

    1996 EVENRUDE 20HP HELP NEEDED

    Did you select a 9.9 motor by mistake? That’s what my 1996 9.9 calls for. I see a ‘96 20hp lists QL77JC4 , along with several optional plugs Part #27 https://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1996&hp=20&model=E20CREDA&manufacturer=Evinrude§ion=CYLINDER+%26amp%3B+CRANKCASE

Lithium battery on an old motor

That is the right track, I was thinking of using car chargers, which may have a desulfate f function, which puts high voltage in. LiFePo4 12V generally specify 12.2 to 12.6V for charging. If your supplies within that range, you should be fine. One caveat is they really do not like to be charged...

Lithium battery on an old motor

Droid is correct. Pb/acid can take some abuse, I have $$ LiPo4 in my RV, they use a different controller. A thermal runaway on a NiCad or lithium…be prepared to swim.
