    Starter - problem after winter

    I own a 1996 Cobalt 220 with Mercruiser I just took my boat out of storage and the starter appears bad. Seemed when tech banged on starter it would work.Was told this could be water in the starter ( Does this cause make sense?) , any advise on how to check, fix or prevent this problem.
