    I thought I did have advance on the side of the carburator but now I am not sure, how can I be sure of that? Not sure when was the last time it was serviced but female socket on top, clamp down style screws on the side of the cap worked great before rebuild Nothing was changed on the block...

    Thank you Makomark No line from the distributor, is that the only way to get mechanical advance, nothing on the carb side would do that? If so, no need to plug any vacum lines or ground aything to set base timing? Machine shop wasn't 100% sure and said check with a marine mechanic. Marine...

    I've got a new block that was replaced in 2020 with the same 1982 5.7L V8 carburated on a 1982 Malibu 202 Deep V cuddy cabin. That had to get rebuilt due to hydro lock and blown head gasket...fun times I tell ya! . Got it back from the machine shop set to TDC. I am getting close to firing it...
