    1988 25hp Mercury clutch shaft?

    I found water in lower unit, replaced both prop shaft seals. Pressure tested lower unit and found leak at shifing shaft. When disassembling, l pulled shaft out. I ordered new o-ring from Marine Engines. Can l push shaft back in or will l need pull the prop shaft unit back out? Thanks, Don
