    I have a 40 hp merc 4 stroke, carb, 2002 model, ser ot440287. how do I separate the shift linkage rod so that I can drop the lower unit. Thank you.

    How to disconnect the shift link on a 2002 merc 4 stroke (carb) to separate the lower unit.

    I can’t figure out how to access the place to disconnect the shift link so I can drop the lower unit. Any help would be appreciated. additionally, on applying slight leverage to the 1” gap at the lower unit, I have caused the shift link seal at the lower unit to separate and rise about 1/4”...
