It doesn't appear to be overheating. I did find something while googling and that was with the welch plug (it was mainly about cleaning out the orifices below it and the low speed needle), but I don't know if I put the new welch plug back...
Hindsight is 20/20. If I knew then what I know now, I would have just rebuilt it as I mentioned. I may look around to see if I can find a used OEM one somewhere. Dropping $119 in a new one isn't in the cards since this is my son's build and he's trying his best to save money.
