    Starting Issues...

    I have a 1977 Johnson 70hp outboard motor. The problem I am having is before I head out to the lake, I always*start*the engine and fire it up prior to putting it in the water (It starts and sounds & runs great). No sooner*I'll put it in the water*the problem starts.....It backfires, sputters...

    My 1977 Johnson 70 hp motor does not like water....

    Can someone PLEASE help me. I have a 77 Johnson 70hp motor. Before I head to the lake, I always put water muffs on the engine and fire it up. It starts and sounds great. About 45 mins later I drop it in the lake and its a beast to start.....It backfires, sputters, runs for a few seconds/shuts...
