    Won’t start at lake - 1991 Evinrude 40 hp

    With pressurized water from a hose the motor starts on a quarter turn of the flywheel and runs smooth. Not starting at the lake points to a water pump issue, I.e., relay, impeller, etc. Where does one start in finding the water flow failure.

    Not equipped for compression test. With water hose attached, motor starts immediately and purrs smoothly.

    Easy start in driveway, but won’t start at lake (2 times). Load it up, take it home and it starts first crank (2 times). What could cause this???
