lower unit of 1993 Johnson 150 is finally off but two questions remain (and the manual is silent on them)

Is that why this has been so hard? I did not know you needed to be paying customer (whatever that is and I must have missed that at sign up) to interact on this site. I mistakenly thought this was a forum especially for Johnson / OMC owners who are collectively keeping an iconic brand on the...

lower unit of 1993 Johnson 150 is finally off but two questions remain (and the manual is silent on them)

Disregard question 1 as I went ahead and rotated the propeller shaft while depressing the shift shaft until the prop shaft spun, I could then rotate the drive shaft (although it is very tight). For question 2, since nobody seems to know an answer...what if I tie a small tear drop fishing...

lower unit of 1993 Johnson 150 is finally off but two questions remain (and the manual is silent on them)

    1) you clearly have to rotate the drive shaft by hand to complete the water pump replacement but cannot do that while in Forward gear as is required to drop it in the first place. Do I push the shift shaft to find neutral? 2) if 1 is true then for the reinstall I assume will have to pull the...

Apologies for starting a new thread but this is about one specific problem and my lower unit is hanging by the shirt shaft...

Well I came back from my week long business trip to find my 1993 OMC manual had arrived. I went straight to the lower unit section and in BOLD font it says to put the shifter in FORWARD gear. I asked 3 times if someone could confirm I am supposed to have it in REVERSE as I did not know and...

Apologies for starting a new thread but this is about one specific problem and my lower unit is hanging by the shirt shaft...

IN my haste to [post, I was disoriented with port and starboard because I was leaning over each way. So reverse what I said above and still, after two days, nobody knows how to drop a lower unit on a 1993 V6 150. So I will have to go to the trouble of taking it to a mechanic and pay him to...

Apologies for starting a new thread but this is about one specific problem and my lower unit is hanging by the shirt shaft...

I was able to bang open the shift shaft lever a little bit then removed all the lower unit bolts (fortunately has been in fresh water its entire life) but the lower unit will only separate about 1/2 cm, a little less than I was able to push the shift lever starboard. Not wanting to ask more...

Good Afternoon! I am the proud, new owner of a 1993 Johnson 150 VJ150ELATG and have three questions.

Many thanks, Kevin, for getting back to me! I will try that this afternoon as soon as I can leave work for the day. This gives me hope since I was pushing from the other end and this will be a different strategy to move the lever (as Racer called it). Also, thanks for explaining that I did...

Good Afternoon! I am the proud, new owner of a 1993 Johnson 150 VJ150ELATG and have three questions.

Well, had to put the boat up and hope I can get this figured out for tonight. Please see pics attached in case I have an oddball configuration that will not disengage with the Retainer Pin pulled. Again, any help on this will really appreciated and also, if there is some kind of protocol for...

Good Afternoon! I am the proud, new owner of a 1993 Johnson 150 VJ150ELATG and have three questions.

Urgent request....I thought I could wait a little for "reversing the process" instructions but go ahead and pull the pin then remove the bolts HOWEVER, I pulled the retaining pin and the LEVER will not budge. I am afraid to force it any harder as I used a stiff screwdriver to leverage it...

Good Afternoon! I am the proud, new owner of a 1993 Johnson 150 VJ150ELATG and have three questions.

Thank you Kevin! I see it clearly now under the rag and will do as you and Racer suggested as well as leave the shift rod alone. In fact, I will tape the base solidly to provide a bit of assurance it wont wiggle around. Final request since apparently will have to wait on my OMC manual to get...

Good Afternoon! I am the proud, new owner of a 1993 Johnson 150 VJ150ELATG and have three questions.

ok, thank you for that and appreciate your response! I will study that end of the shift mechanism and look for a lever.

Good Afternoon! I am the proud, new owner of a 1993 Johnson 150 VJ150ELATG and have three questions.

can you please explain which lever you are referring? I do remember seeing a pin in the shift cable conduit between the edge of the cowling and that bolt. So if I pull that pin, you say to rotate a lever but I don't quite understand. Also, how do I get it back in place unless you are saying...

Good Afternoon! I am the proud, new owner of a 1993 Johnson 150 VJ150ELATG and have three questions.

First, a little background...I was looking for my next boat and an older friend of my wife heard then asked if I would like to look at her 1994 Hurricane 196 (with 1993 Johnson). She kept it stored nicely but did not understand the engine side of things so I knew it needed a lot of work but I...
