    2005 Mercury 40hp Outboard runs welbut suddenly revs very high, clunks when you try to throttle down

    This is a used 2005, 40 hp ELTPO 2 stroke outboard Mercury on a 2003 Tracker fishing boat bought as a Christmas gift for my husband. We do not know the history on the boat or motor. Seller was definitely aware but scammed us. I don't need the Buyer Beware reminder but would love some advice...
