    Thanks for the information. I changed the connection according to the diagram on the right side of the attached picture and the lights seem to work. What kind of off switch do I need and which cables do I connect it to?

    The outboard does not have a rectifier, so connecting the lights directly without a battery would be the best option. The problem is that I don't know the name of the cable and I can't find a single picture of one that fits the plug.

    What is the name of that charger plug and where can I find a cable for it? The plug is for the cable that charges the boat's battery. This is an Evinrude 1987 30hp 2-stroke outboard.
