Hi there, I just bought a 1980 28' Sea Ray Sedan Bridge with twin Mercruiser 470's with 170HP each and was curious what I might expect with fuel economy on them. I heard not too long ago that a single Mercruiser 470 can consume about 10GPH, but that's just from one source.. Anyway with consideration the size of boat and 2 motors... does anyone know what I might expect on fuel usage?? I appreciate your help. |

Ryan, I don't have access to any "on water tests" going back to that vintage. Maybe an owner can jump in and give you "their results".
To try and give you some idea of what maybe to expect I will post a chart below. No, not entirely applicable - your twins are 3.7 litre motors only turning 170 horses and the test was on a pair of modern 4.3, fuel injected motors producing 225 horses a piece (pushing a 29 footer of similar weight and hull design to your Sea Ray) - so if we assume that "gas mileage" got a little better with the more modern motors, you can fudge the results a little to give you maybe a bit of an idea what you may be seeing.
