Randy:

you may want too ask the prop question on the yamaha page. I haven't had an outboard for years but do remember when composite props came out - they made reliable lightweight spares and performed ok. didn't know they have progressed to replaceable blades.

If it falls off plane really easy, I'd be inclined to back off the pitch vs adding to it. That will take some of the load off the motor and make it easier to push the heavy load. It will make the negine last longer, too.

Make sure the prop is sized to get into the WOT band, suggested by the factory, with a full normal load. If you change normal loads with the season (or sport) you may want to consider two props as well - one for each season.

i had a com prop for a season or two, they can be worth the money, you have to weigh out your pros/cons,its good ,the prop breaks if it hits something/no other damage happens to drive, its bad if you do it frequently.and yes if you just clip something(logs mud rocks etc)it does break
a little easier than you would think,on the other hand aluminumn/stainless would shake it off
and you keep going on your way, with minamal problems, remember steel /alum can be repaired, plastic is a throw away item

thanks,I should have said composites w replacement blades.$60 for 2? spares I think I saw. blades slide into the hub.anyway I am leaning towards an alum. 4 blade, hoping for more lift at the stern as i have heard they provide and steering improvement.12.5 to 13.25 by 17 as I have a 13" 1/4x17 3 blade now.or i could just try to trade the 03 4stroke for a 2stroke, 140+/- lbs less!Is there a forum just for props?

i have seen those kind of props/any 4 blade will give better lift/performance,pretty sure you need to move up one size with a 4 from a 3 blade.i attached a photo of what was left of mine after trying to plane up in the muck,it was a busy weekend at the lake and couldnt get out fast enough.
