Hello, If anyone has any source of info on McCulloch boat motors, I would appreciate your reply. The motor was kept in storage for several years. I wanted to check it over before I tryed starting it, I did pull the rope and it seems to have good compression. Also I don't have the gas-line hook-up, and I need to purchase one. Also I would like to acquire a parts manual. The twist grip throttle handle has tape around it(assume another method was used to throttle)*it appears a cog (or part of one) is missing at the rear part of the handle! well my mistake, you have an old scott-atwater later owned by McCulloch of lake Havasue -london bridge fame. I sent you the air cooled book- not going to help. I found their carb the biggest problem. Neat little motor but did like to fall off the boat due to the single transom clamp. The bilge pump idea was unique but did complicate the water pump installation. |

That serial number would make it a 1965, twin cylinder McCulloch. Yes, Scott-Atwater was bought out by McCulloch in 1956 and over the next few years, there was Scott-McCulloch models out there as well. By 64 it was just plain "McCulloch". They pretty much stopped production of outboards in 1965, but did continue to provide them to Sears until 1969 when their supply contract ended. McCulloch was sold to MTD a number of years back, however MTD did not buy up their parts patents so parts supply was virtually cut off for older McCulloch motors. |

Update on the old 7 1/2 HP McCulloch: I located a supplier for the throttle handle, complete with both gears. They said the gears look good and turn freely, but there is a broken pivot bolt that will need to be replaced, where the handle pivots up and down. They also have impellers in stock, I assume mine are dry-rot/cracked after so many years in storage. Note: My older brother told me, he and my Dad (deceased) bought this little motor brand new in 1965, used it only a few time before placing it in storage....it sure will be a special treat to get 'ur running and in the water soon!
