I am moving up in the boat world and have narrowed my search to two searches. 1. 18ft deep and wide with a 40 hp evinrude, the engine is at least 18 years old. 2. a 16 foot john boat with an 18 hp nissan that is around 3 years old. My questions are: 1. how dependable are 18 year old evinrude's that have been well taken care of? .2. Will both of these engines be able to plain their respective boats out with two people inside? |

My youngest outboard is 18 years old, the other 3 are well over 20 and none have ever spend a day down for other than routine maintenance - so a well cared for "young" outboard is more than dependable.
I believe that both of those rigs would plane out fine with two average adults on board - however those are two drastically different boats there. The john boat is much better on flat water while the 18 footer will handle things when it's rough.
What you plan on using it for and where should determine which is the better set-up for you... |
