I was recently given a small Johnson motor for my pond boat. This little thing has a (accelerator lever)(?) for lack of a better term and it is frozen in one place. It should move from stop to fast and is frozen about midway. No amount of forcing wil budge it. I am in the process of dismantling it and am down to the flywheel. No one around here will work on this and even the boat guys won't since it is so small. One even suggested taking it to a watchsmith. If I am on the right track to freeing up this lever how do I get the flywheel off? It is so small no one around here has the tools to do it. Even NAPA can't suggest where to find one.

Jim.... Somewhere on that engine there is a plate with the Model and Serial Number, or if it's a extremely old engine, the numbers will be imbedded in the casting. Get that "Model" number to us and we'll tell you exacttly what year and horsepower it is. As for the removing the flywheel, back the nut off until the top of the nut is flush with the crankshaft threads, then exert a little pressure under the edge of the flywheel, then carefully rap the top of the nut with a hammer. That will break the flywheel loose. Use caution so as not to damage the C/S threads.
