I'm new to this, so please pardon my ignorance.
That said, what is the big difference between an automotive and a marine carburetor, other than the flame arrestor on top? For instance, I have a Carter AFB 4-barrel that I want to rebuild. I can't locate any info about this marine version. Can I rebuild it with a kit for an auto AFB? Can I substitute other auto carb parts into this unit? Will a manual for the auto version of the AFB apply to this? Also, is there any way to identify exactly which AFB I have? There is no tag and the only number I can find is "O 1095" which I can't seem to reference anywhere.

Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.

the big difference between an automotive carb and a marine carb is the vent tubes. A marine carb has the vent tubes that divert the gas, that might result from a bad needle vale or such, to the main throttle bores of the carburetor. You can use an automotive rebuild kit in them though, if you locate the correct one. Make sure you get one with "high flow" needle and seat assy's though. I am not sure on the model numbers myself.
