Hello,
I have a 1969 Johnson,40HP outboard,model #40EL-69R.It won't start,there is no spark.A friend told me it needed new powerpacks,but I don't think this model has powerpacks.Does it? |

It is very likely that both coils are cracked.Easy to replace. It does not nave a power pack.Pull the flywheel and tune it up.Might be worth pulling the bypass covers to check for broken piston rings which was also a common fault. |

Hello Sparky,
Thanks for the info.I've never owned a boat before and I don't know anything about outboards.This is a project boat(new hobby)and needs some work.It's a 1969 Glassmaster.It wasn't started for 1 or 2 years before I bought it and I want to make sure it will run before I spend too much time and money.I just got a service manual so maybe I'll learn a little.
