| Cummins 6CTA 450hp reliability problems |

I own a 35' R.I.B. fitted with a Cummins 6CTA 450 h.p. driving thro a Hamilton 292 water jet. This boat is less than 12 months old (750 hrs)but has had the engine rebuilt under warranty due to problems with excessive oil consumption, smoking, lack of power. New turbo,injectors,piston rings & liner fitted to No 4 cylinder to attempt cure to problems. There have been repeated problems with the starter sticking.(new starter fitted under warranty). After 10 hrs running engine failed due to water in oil & oil in water. Cylinder head & gasket checked & no fault found. I would welcome any comments from any operators experiencing similar problems |
