My 120 Johnson is idling poorly and stalling. I have cleaned carbs, changed plugs and tested compression, all seems fine. What's next?

Alan,

I'm wondering what that engine does at a higher RPM or if it will actually run at a higher RPM. Assuming the carbs are definitly clean and that there is no adjustment on them (I don't believe there is) and that the linkage was put back together correctly (not out of adjustment) and that the idle is set to the correct RPM; Checking for good fuel flow to the carbs wouldn't be a bad idea (bad fuel flow caused by bad pump, clogged filter, air or fuel leak in lines, bad vent on tank, rouge anti-siphon valve or bad squeeze bulb). The other likely canidate is bad spark... don't quote me, but I want to say you should see a strong blue flame that jumps 5/16 or 3/8 of an inch on all 4.

If spark is OK, a would check the sync and link. You need a manual for this. The loopers are very touchy and this needs to be correct.

Looper means no deflecter on the piston and aimed intake ports to do the cylinder scavenging. Some of the loopers had problems with crankshaft sealing rings , which causes loss of CRANKCASE compression.
