| Bad piston...what are my options? |

I have an 84 evinrude long shaft, 25hp, electric and pull start model...The bottom piston is bad...I don't know much about engines, but can I bore out the cylinders...get bigger pistons...increase my HP? Are the pistons even available? |

As for increasing the HP, you don't hear much about it; most everyone just bores/hones (as little as possible) to re-condition a cylinder for further use - if one cylinder is bad and the other is OK, you can just oversize one etc.. Oversized pistons/rings are available, there are OEM and aftermarket (wiseco, sierra etc) available. As for the sizes available, it differs. Usually any shop can get you either (aftermarket is much cheaper); or run a search for precision mfg's (Clearwater Florida) website and have them send you a catologe, their prices are very decent for aftermarket engine guts.
