Repairing a 6 HP Evinrude Model 6904 F Serial # J0002485; No water comes out of the hole at the lower rear of the engine. It is not plugged. It starts well.
Age?
Does it have a water pump? Where?, a thermostat?

Repairing a 9.9 Evinrude. Runs hot at speed, OK at idle. Replaced 3 pump impellers. Old engine run annually, total hours about 60. Low water flow seems to be the problem. How should I proceed to fix this oldie but goodie?

CG.....On the page where everyone has their topics/complaints/messages listed, go to the bottom of that page. There, you will see a large button entitled something like "Start Your Own Conversation" (on the order of that) where you can have your message entered at the top of the list, with your own heading. As it stands now, your questions are buried under somebody elses Mercury problem.

FYI.... The 6hp is a 1979. Water pump is attached to the top of the lower unit. The thermostat is under the plate that's attached to the top of the cylinder head.

The 9.9hp...Install a complete water pump kit, not just an impeller. Use regular gasket sealer on any gaskets that may be involved (sealer in a can that comes with a small brush attached to its screw off cap). Use "Marprox Sealer 1000" (in a tube)on all surface to surface contacts (hsg to plate, plate to lower unit, etc) to eliminate any possible air leaks. The Marprox sealer may be found under other mfg's names such as "Boat Armor" etc but it will always state "Sealer 1000".

Gale.... Hit your "Back" button to get back to the "Outboard Message Board" area where everyone has their topics listed. Go to the bottom of that page. You'll see a large button there entitled "Create New Conversation" where you can click on it, then enter your message/question under your own heading, and it will appear at the top of the list where everyone can see it. As it stands right now, your question is buried under two other topics, and it's unlikely that many will see it. I just happened to come across it.
