I JUST GOT MY GALE RUNNING AND THERE IS A FUEL LEAK AT THE SHUTOFF VALE MAYBE FROM THE PACKING NUT. ALSO THE MIXTURE KNOB WILL NOT STAY PUT, IT MOVES ON ITS OWN WHEN IT WANTS I PUT A PEICE OF CARDBOARD BETWEEN OT AND THE COVER TO HOLD IT IN PLACE LEANED OUT AND IT RUNS GREAT ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED.
PS I DON'T KNOW THE YEAR OR MODEL JUST GALE 3 HP.

Jim..... There's such a thing a caulking string (packing) that one wraps around the inner shaft of the fuel valve (sort of sits in the cupped tightening nut). If you can get that, fine. If not, get a piece of string, grease it up, curl it in the tightening cup, then put the valve together and tighten the retaining cup to a point whereas the valve can be turned on or off, but it is pretty snug. That should cure that leak.
The loose adjustment valve has three or four fiber washers in back of the brass lock nut. Sounds like yours aren't there. They can be purchased at any marine dealership. Slide a couple down the shaft, tighten the lock nut somewhat. If you can snug that valve down to where it's really snug, but can still be moved with some effort, you're done. If not, slide another packing washer in there. Four is usually the limit. Good Luck.
