Joe, I've sent for the battery charge kit #174037 you recomended now my question is does it take a special puller to remove the flywheel, one I might be able to rent or will I have to take it in to the shop to have it removed? Thanks for all the time you give to help us all. Bob Allen

Bob.... To remove the flywheel properly, a puller would be used that has three (3) bolt holes in it that would line up with the three (3) threaded holes you see near the flywheel nut. They are fairly reasonable and can be purchased at any automotive parts type store, and it wouldn't surprise me if they are stocked by K-Mart and/or Wal*Mart. It would be a worthwhile purchase as that puller (with other removal bolts) can be used on any of the OMC and other manufacturers engines.

The alternative way to remove the flywheel is to back the flywheel nut off so that the top of the nut is level with the top of the crankshaft. Then apply pressure upwards to the bottom of the flywheel with a large screwdriver or some such object. With that pressure applied, rap the top of the nut/crankshaft sharply with a hammer. Usually that breaks the flywheel free. HOWEVER, USE GREAT CAUTION if you use this alternative method as the slightest error or miss hit could cause damage to the crankshaft threads.
