Help.. I recenrly aquired a 1985 85 hp force outboard. it had not been run for several years so prior to trying to start it I poured a few ounces of marvel mystery oil in the cylinders and worked the flywheel by hand for a few days prior to cranking it over. When I finally tried to start it I get a loud backfire through the exhaust. I checked and double checked the stator, trigger and ignition coil leads and I'm confident everything is in order. I did a compression check and I have 130 on #1, 75 on #2, and 55 on # 3. Could the low and uneven compression be causing thye backfires ? I have good spark at all cyls. and I have taken the carbs apart and cleaned everything, I am now throughly confused, has anyone heard of anything like this ? |
