Hey Everyone,
I have a 1986 Force 125 that I just rebuilt. Believe it or not it started right up. My question is how do you insure that the motor is pumping water. I replaced the water impeller and housing and made sure the tube was clean. With out a pee hole like most engines is there a way to tell it is working before it overheats. I am afraid to run the motor to long until i am sure that the water pump is working. |

Rev,
Start the engine and carefully touch the exhaust cover plate. This is the large, flat surface on the port side of the block. If the engine is cooling properly this area should not become uncomfortably hot. If it seems that the temperature at this location just keeps rising without stabilizing, something is wrong.
Did you remove or replace the thermostat?

I have removed and replaced the thermostat. I will try the exaust cover to see if it gets hot. Should the head get hot so that you cant touch it or should it be comfortable to the touch? |

Rev,
If the thermostat is installed the head will get hotter than the exhaust plate, but you should still be able to touch it without getting burned.
