AFTER MY BOAT BEING IN THE SHOP SINCE LAST OCT OF 2001, I FINALY GOT MY BOAT BACK FORM THE SHOP. I WAS ONLY GETTING 3000 RPM AND I WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS INTERNIALY. THEY TOOK THE WHOLE ENGINE APART TO TELL ME THAT THEY DO NOT REALY KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. I WAS TOLD THEY MUST HAD BLOWN OUT A PORT HOLE THAT HAD BEEN PLUGED UP. TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT, AFTER $1300.OO REPAIR BILL, MY BOAT NOW GETS 4000 RMP. IS THIS ABOUT THE RIGHT RMP IN SHOULD BE GETTING WHEN RUNNING FULLY OPEN OR SHOULD IT BE HIGHER YET? IF SO I PLAN TO GET IT BACK TO THE SHOP FOR BETTER PREFORMANCE. ED IN QUESTION OF MY RPM.... |

Ed, You should get more than 4000 rpms. Of course, the prop can have an effect on max rpms, but I don't think there is a prop available for your engine that could cause the rpms to drop that much. You should get at least 5000, and as much as 5600, depending on the prop.

I have a tag riveted to the transom that states the max rpm is 5500. It also states 4500 to 5500 operating range. |
