I have a 25 horse Merc with a real bad cylinder.
It has Mercasil cylinders and .030 over pistons are available.. If i get it bored to +0.030 will
the mercasil still be there...any info is appreciated.

Hi Mike,
We have bored and sleeved severel of these blocks and they are definately a different breed. The mercosil will be gone by + 030 and you will be out to cast aluminum but this is ok according to merc as a repair. In fact the "cool bore" Briggs & Stratton engine utilizes an aluminum bore. Make sure your machinists is used to boring and honing "blind cylinders" and you should be fine. Hope the info helps! |

Mike,
I usually have these blocks bored and sleeved for standard pistons. I think this is the best way to go.

I have Had Mercury marine replace (3) 25 hp powerheads at the dealership that i work at what year and searil group is your motor |
