I have an 1988 88 Envinrude with a bad powerhead sitting in my garage.
I took the lower unit off this weekend to see the process in changing out the water impeller.
The impeller was still soft. What seemed funny was the impeller was really stuffed in the housing. The ends of the impeller had to be bent to get it to fit in the housing. It created a really tight fit, could not turn the shaft by hand wth the impeller in place.
Does this sound like it was the correct impeller?
I ran the motor about a year with no signs of problems until I lost compression in one of the cylinder. |

Dave.... The impeller is larger than the housing and must be turned when being inserted to seat properly. It takes a little doing to turn it by hand but it can be done. It helps if you smear just a slight bit of grease in the housing first.
