I recently bought a 1974 johnson 70 hp. I had a reed valve broken, and the fellow that I bought it from had dissasembled the motor, for a replacement of all gaskets and to inspect the rest of the internal parts. After re-assembling the motor, we are down to hooking up the wiring and fuel lines, but cannot find a fuel pump. According to the Clymers shop manual, the johnson motors use a self contained fuel pump. but on this motor there is no apparent place for one. the guy I got the motor from is helping with the re-assembly but cant remember about this part.Any help would be apprreciated. If there is one, a photo or an exploed view would be very helpful. |

Ricky....The fuel pump on that model sits on the port side (left) of the engine between the electric starter and the exhaust baffle plate assy. There is a small bracket that attaches to the powerhead halves with two 7/16" hex heads. the fuel pump then attaches to that bracket. Notice when looking at the engine sideways (looking at the exhaust baffle plate), the top of the bracket/pump would be approximately at the area where the baffle plate starts to slope towards the top of the cylinder head. Ricky.... None other than checking with a OMC (Evinrude/Johnson) dealership, or other dealers who may have a supply of used/damaged engines. I'll check tomorrow to see if I may have one left in stock. Joe |

Ricky.... I checked my remaining stock but I do not have that pump bracket. Try the dealers and anyone that has used outboard parts. The OMC bracket part number is #318366 and that number may be imprinted on the part itself, but that's not a definite. It lists new for approximately $20.50. Should you also need a fuel pump, I do have one new one left in stock. It lists for approximately $47.00 but I'd sell it for $29.00 and handle the shipping. Joe |
