Tom,

I think the Evinrude model 28203R is 28HP from 1962

and the Johnson model RDSL-27A is 40HP from 1965

We sell manuals for those motors if you need them.

Andrew the years sound likely. But they both say 28hp on the plate. One is a parts motor but has slight differences from the other. The lower unit and fuel pump are not the same.

thanks for input---TomM

Tom,

That's odd.... that Johnson number should be a 40HP... maybe someone else will know...

Tom.... Andrew is correct. You say the plate on both indicate a 28.... what plate? It may have a hood on it from a 28hp as the hoods from a 28hp, 33hp, and 40hp were interchangeable within certain years. The Johnson model numbers that started out with RDS22 thru RDS30 are 40hp models. The Evinrude 28hp was manufactured in 1962 thru 1963 and had a model number of RXE11 and RXE12 respectively.

Andrew+Joe Your right I looked in the daylight and it is a 40. Do you know what is different between 28-40? They look identical on the outside. Are the rods, crankshaft or any other internal parts interchangeable?

thanks for info--TomM
