I am trying to mount a bracket on my transom for a trolling motor. The transom is reinforced with a stainless steel plate. How do you drill through stainless steel??? Thanks, Bill |

Bill,
Use cobalt drill bits and a little oil to keep the bit cool.
Start with a small bit and work your way up to the needed diameter.
If you can't find these bits, take an ordinary drill bit and flatten the cuting edges so that the tip is not as pointed. A bench grinder or bit sharpener will do this. This enables the bit to bite into a wider area and start cutting before the point heats up and loses temper. Hit the steel surface with a punch to further increase the drill bit's bite. Use oil here also.
