I have placed a larger through hull in a 36' Marine Trader. This through hull will be used for engine cooling. I would assume that the external strainer inlet should be facing the stern rather than the bow to avoid being obstructed with stuff in the water. Is this correct?
Thanks for your thoughts.

best not to use a scoop type strainer. could force water into engine under sail. if you must, use a valve and shut it while sailing.
