My new boat has leaking elbow gaskets(5.7L GM engine)and for many years I have seen fiber type gaskets on them. The OEM replacement gaskets are now using metal ones(at least from Volvo Penta). You can't even by a fiber one from Volvo for the 5.7L. Any advice on gasket sealers to use other than putting the metal(or fiber) gaskets on dry like the factory recommends. For salt water you need to keep the surfaces free of any moisture. |

Tell you what, Cap: If you can stop that ugly rust at the connections let me know how! The problem is that the gasket surface is by necessity bare metal. Corrosion gets under the paint edge and proceeds away from there.
I suppose we could paint the gasket surface and prevent that, but it "ain't done". Might cause an exhaust leak, so we all live with the rust.
