I just bought a 17 foot fishing boat with a 125 1988 Force. I would image that it should push a boat this size pretty good, well it doesn't. It takes forever to plane and once it does it moves like a wounded snail. Is there anyway easy to check the horsepower output on this? It sounds fine, doesn't seem to be missing or anything it just is very weak.

First- you should post with the "Chrysler" questions. Next- you will want to do a compression test. This will tell you if you want to continue. This motor can run on 2 cylinders and sound great. So do a spark test. You are probably missing a cylinder. Water pump working? change it.
Is the oil in the lower nice and clean- no metal?
That is the quick basics and if you have the ignition problems- that is a new post.
