could anyone tell me how to change the impeller in a 1963 gale 40 hp motor.thanks for any help |

Ernest, you need to remove the lower unit to get at the waterpump. But there will be a "step by step process". Best to get a manual (they are still available for about 25 bucks).
Just do a websearch for Gale outboard repair manuals... |

thanks for the info,changed impeller with no problem,i have a couple of more questions,can i use the same 2 cycle oil i use in my chainsaw and weed wacker in the boat motor and when the motor is running does it put a charge back in the battery.thanks |

Ernest, this is a water cooled motor so use Marine TCW-3 rated oil. Water cooled engines burn "cooler" than your weed wacker so you need an oil that will burn up at the lower temperature..
I burn Walmart's outboard oil, it's cheap, it works and is readily available - and have had zero issues using it, but any outboard oil, regardless of brand would work fine... |
