| Cobra stern drive shifting issue |

I recently purchased a 1988 Seaswirl Cuddy with a 4.3l Chev and a Cobra stern drive combo. The previous owner gave me a copy of a letter from OMC concerning shiftimg problems. The letter refers to a problem in the gearset. I have done some research and some people believe the problem lies in the transom shift cable. The problem is the gears clash during engagement and a loud clunk is heard shortly after. The letter states that left unrepaired the boat could get stuck without forward gear and subsequent gear damage. Has anybody had any experinece with these stern drives and their associated problems. Thanks for the help.
