i am having a problem i never experienced before
when i put the transmission into gear the trans enguages and the shaft that is attached to the transmission spins. but the shaft on the outside of the boat that the prop is attached to is spinning freely i can move it by hand with the trans in gear, is there a coupling or u joint i am missing any help will be greatly appreciated this has never happened before

There is a key on the shaft at the prop that may have sheared.

you'll have to pull up the floor board between trans and where shaft exits boat. mine is a one piece shaft but it could be two pieces?? In which case there may be another key coupling the two shafts. If it's the keyway inside the prop, the shaft should still be spinning (outside the boat) but the prop would not.
