96 5.8L GT40. Time to cange the oil. The label on engine says 40W 40 "SG" rated oil. Seems pretty difficult to find that oil. What else can (should) I use? And how many quarts does this engine take? Recommendations on filters? Thanks in advance. |

Forunately for you, and all of us, API ratings have been superceded several times since are now up to API-SM. Be sure to stick with the viscosity recommended by the manufacturer, in your case 40 weight. Oil filters are not as critical nowadays given the advances of additive packages since rating of API-SF or better. The corresponding automotive equivielent will serve you well. I use Purolator's "PureOne" on my engines only because I can get them for a dollar more than their standard filters and at that it only costs $5. There is no substitute for frequent oil changes for best engine longevity |
