I have noticed when my engine runs for about 30 minutes or longer when I press the engine kill switch it refuses to stop. I had someone look at while out sailing and he found a fuel shut off switch that I can use to manually stop the engine.

It does not explain why the engine will cut off from the switch when it is not fully warmed up, but won't when it is fully warm.

I did some research and understand there is a solenoid that pulls the fuel cut off switch when the kill switch is pressed. I am wondering if it is failiing and not responding when it gets overheated.

Anyone have any other ideas or reccomendations to corect this?

The shut off solenoid could be sticking. This happened to a friend in France last year. His dutch steel trawler has 2 4JH-TE. Yanmar distributor wanted about $400. This is a Bosch part (number on solenoid) and marina was able to source for $190. I removed and cleaned old one. Remove wire, unscrew solenoid, spray with cleaner and reinstall. It worked until new one arrived. Now a spare.
