I have Cat 3208TA engines on my 41 Tiara. Twice in the last year the alternator bolt on the port engine has broken while underway. This is a 1/2x 3 inch bolt holding a Balmar alternator. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is happening? |

are you using a grade 8 or better bolt to hold the alternator? how is the alianment of the pulley to the other pulleys? is the spacer in the alternator its self bottom out against the support or is the bolts getting tight but not clamping the alternator correctly, check for spacer there. if there is a space that is a problem. |

Think Duane covered it all, but definitely use grade 8 hardware in the mean time. What's on there from the factory is probably grade 5 or 3. |
