I need to put an exaust system on a detroit 671. One guy says it needs a straight flow through muffler. One fellow says it needs back preasure. Can someone clear this up for me.

YES IT NEEDS B/P.IF YOU TELL IF IT PRIME OR STANDBY I CAN TELL YOU WHAT B/P SHOULD BE.AND WHAT RPM IT RUNS AT.

Thanks Marv,
I will be using it to power a sawmill. It was used as a stand-by generator for a large factory. The engines (2 of them) are to run at 1800 rpms. They drive a gearbox that reduces the rpms to 1200 for the generator. I need that speed to achive the 60 cyl. 480 volts.I hope this helps with the back pressure calculations.

AT 1800 RPM YOU SHOULD HAVE 3.3 B/P, AT F/L. EACH ENGINE NEEDS IT OWN EHAUST SYSTEM. HOPE THIS HELPS

What does 3.3 represent? 3.3 #? will someone at the muffler supply know how to assure me I have the right b/p.?
