I have twin 6V53s with new 5" Vernatone mufflers. The exhaust noise level is higher now than with the previous 3.5 inch original exhaust. The boat was repowered by a previous owner from gas to the DDCs without increasing the exhaust size.
It has been suggested that I can reduce the noise level by increasing the proportion of water flow through the exhaust by pinching down on the cooling water bypass.
The bypass water flow is currently set to minimize exhaust water flow while limiting exhaust temperature. I understood this was to limit back pressure on the engine.
What is the downside to increasing exhaust water flow?
Will it reduce noise?
If I try this, what are the limits I should work to? |
