I am an adult on a Girl Scout ship that has 2 Detroit Diesel 671's that have been very faithful to us. We are approaching a foundation to replace our old 671's with more nvironmentally friendly engines. They wanted to know the age of the engines. I have found where on the block the serial numbers are
located. Unfortunately it seems to be older then any information I can find on line.
The starboard engine has a star then "6A 11211" and then another star. Under this is "671RA48A".
The port engine has a star then "6A 11214" and then another star. Under this is "671LC48A".
Can any of you help me figure out how old these engines are?

built some were around 1950 or older.and they are low blocks |
