New to this type of thing so sorry in advance and this engine is not fitted to a boat but a crane. I had fuel in the engine oil so i changed out the fuel lines. After staring up again and rpm limit at 2440 put engine under load and huge amounts of black smoke bellowed out rpm dropped and did not re-gain until load was taken off. the head was overhauled last year.

Cheers Marvin just did a couple more checks in the book and the engine top RPM is 2470 idle is 1610 under load the top speed drops to around 1710 if the injector rack and full load settings are out would that cause the black smoke ???? |

Also check to make sure your air filter or oil bath air cleaner or blower screen isn't stopped up. Unless you're overloading the engine it should turn more than 1710 dead rack at full load. If the engine idles a lot, I'd check to make sure your exhaust manifold isn't clogged up with carbon. |
